Scams

Updated: Jun 17

A reminder to residents that scams can come in many forms and to please use due diligence when engaging in any kind of transaction. A couple of tips to help:

- Reputable companies will provide a written estimate and contract, and likely not offer to do the work same/next day. As well, reputable companies don't typically engage in cash sales.

- Reputable companies should have branding that is consistent and detailed, showing an investment of time, money, and effort.

- Companies engaging in work should have / present proof of insurance upon request.

- Do research on the company's historical record (jobs completed, references, community reputation, etc.)

The Government of Canada has many resources available to help you stay diligent regarding scam and fraud, found here.

If you have fallen victim to a scam, you can report it to the Ottawa Police Services.
